My first encounter with sport was at 7-years old playing in a community soccer league. Really fell in love with the sport and made it the varsity team in high school. Soccer was very popular in those days, so it was a rare choice!
It was in university that I discovered weightlifting and bodybuilding. In the mid 1980s as a teenager, Arnold was the man and my inspiration! I was obsessed with building a strong physique like his. When not in class, you could liklely find me pumping iron at the gym. I also learned to cook healthy meals. I'm grateful to have set that foundation in health and nutrition that I still practice today.
After graduating and starting a career as Landscape Architect, I continued to pursue my fitness passion on the side by becoming certified as a personal trainer and coaching client sessions before/after work.
Switched fields to purse a dream of working in the movie industry as a VFX artist. After lots of persistence (and patience), I got the chance to work on many well-known feature films. Despite long hours, I maintained my fitness and continued helping others do the same when I had time.
Fast forward to today (after thousands of group classes & sessions) and I am a full time independent coach/trainer. Been over 20 years with the ASCM as a personal trainer, as well as coaching CrossFit and Spartan Race training since 2015. I recently obtained a HYROX Group Class Instructor certification. Learning never stops!
As an athlete myself at 57, I no longer play soccer, but I compete yearly in the CrossFit Games (age quarterfinalist in 2022 and 2023) and reached the podium in Spartan Race 11 times in my age group. I guess I won’t stop until I can’t move anymore lol. I know well the challenges of the older athlete, as well as jobs with long hours behind the computer and the special challenges that come with that.
My hope is for every person to find and make time for a sport or exercise method they love and to learn from it useful life habits such as discipline, patience, persistence, focus, and having a sense of humor helps a lot too! : )
